A smart hotel close to the city walls of Lucca. Warm welcome on Reception from Barbara. Parking (charged - request in advance) in small shared lot, just around the corner from the entrance. Third floor room, but there was a lift! Huge room and massive bed! Very nicely decorated and definitely not ‘just another hotel room’. Ideal location for exploring this city which has so much to offer. Loved walking around on top of the city walls - what a great thing for locals and visitors alike. Found the main piazza and had a lovely meal watching the night fall and the world go by. Check your bill eating out. Our restaurant made an ‘error’ and would have overcharged us about €40+ if we hadn’t checked! It was a more expensive restaurant anyway for our last night in Italy, so we were very surprised! However, no tip for that meal! Didn’t spoil the fact that we loved visiting Lucca, would love to come back to explore more thoroughly (we were only there for an afternoon and evening and definitely needed more time) and would also highly recommend the San Luca Palace. We flew to and from Pisa, so also a handy location to stay outside the city if you’re flying in or out of Pisa!

San Luca Palace gave me what I wanted -- an old (i.e. classic) hotel that's been updated. Welcoming lobby, fancy bar. Our room felt like a suite. Large and comfortable. Green with lavender touches made it soothing. Breakfast was plentiful, warm and cold options. The location was near restaurants and Lucca's cool side streets. We were surprised at Lucca's great many boutiques and creative window displays; price points much friendlier than in our later stops, Como and Milan. We had two outstanding dinners each night of our stay. Highly recommended: Da Francesco and Lucca in Tavola: Cucina Casalinga, which happened to be right across the street from our hotel and features charismatic owner and host Michael. Be wise and take Michael's suggestions. It's tight inside the restaurant and you'll wind up making friends -- and glad you did.

The hotel staff were all very professional, friendly and helpful. We arrived in a hire car, which we returned after one night here as a car is not necessary within Lucca, and we were able to park in the hotel car park for 20 euros - parking is not easy in Lucca. My mother's single room was on the 4th floor but right by the lift, so she had no problems. All the rooms we saw were spacious and attractively decorated, including the resident's lounge on the ground floor. The location is perfect - a very short distance to the city walls, and a short walk straight into the centre of town. There was no noise from the street at night, despite us being on the first floor just above it. Breakfast was good. We were able to leave our luggage for a while once we'd checked out.

If you're staying in Lucca and exploring Tuscany, this is an ideal property. Located within the wall of the historic city, you can walk to all that Lucca has to offer. We were also able to park our car adjacent to the property and it was easily accessible for us to come and go as we visited other towns in the area. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and lent us an umbrella on a very rainy day. Our room was HUGE and decorated in the beautiful style of a grand old hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

Room was lovely, comfortable and very big. The building, lobby, bar and other common areas were very elegant. Breakfast was superb - great choice and quality, with both European and American options. Roberto and all front desk staff were extremely helpful with all requests and kindly booked an airport transfer for us in advance. Location is within easy walking distance of the main attractions. Bicycles available for cycling the walls - an essential experience in Lucca!
